We had a great time recently when two of our dentists ( Dr Daisy McCarthy and Dr Helen Walsh) visited St. Catherine’s National School (Donore Avenue, Dublin 8) to speak to the children about caring for their teeth.
Our children’s dentist Dr. Daisy McCarthy spoke to the children about what foods are good and not so good for their teeth.
They brought in various types of food, and demonstrated to the children examples of what is healthy and unhealthy in terms of sugar content.
They also showed them two different lunch boxes- one being healthy and the other containing a lot of sugar which can be bad for their teeth. They demonstrated what foods may look healthy but in fact should be actually be a treat and not eaten every day!
The dentists gave demonstrations on how the children should be cleaning their teeth for the recommended time of 2 minutes.
Children are really quick to learn and soaked up the information given. We strongly believe that by teaching children how to look after their teeth from an early age they will develop lifelong good oral hygiene habits.
All the children (and our dentists!) had a great time, learned lots and got to take home some goodie bags too!
