Give it back!!!
In December last, I was particularly humbled to walk into our staff room to find our team members busy wrapping gifts for a local charity. After a few queries, I realised that these gifts were for a local womens refuge—santa was going to visit these ladies, most of whom brought children with them while they fled their domestic situations.
There I was planning the Christmas dinner–goose for main course this year—for me much nicer than turkey -and presents for our 2 children—while the team were thinking of others.
It definitely gave me a well needed shake-up; following which I added a few things to their bundles myself, and decided to give the little people in my life less for Christmas and pay the world back some small bit for my good fortune—add the old cliché of health and happiness to safety—these things cannot be overvalued.
I did a clear out of toys and clothing early in the new-year, and this refuge again was delighted to be the recipient of the donation.
So, I suppose the moral of the story for me was to focus on what I have, not what I don’t have, and to be more thoughtful of others-who may be going through a less fortunate time.
