You Can Overcome your Dental Phobia in Dublin

Do you find it difficult to contemplate picking up the phone to book a much needed appointment, let alone actually sitting in the dental chair? Many adults do, as dental fear is a relatively common feeling, and it is something that dentists make extensive efforts to understand. Modern dentistry is much kinder than in the past, and you are certainly assured of receiving a sympathetic ear at Portobello Dental Clinic in Dublin.

Dental Phobia DublinAll of our dentists take great pains to treat nervous patients extremely gently and have all undergone post graduate training in sedation dentistry in Dublin. If you are trying to pluck up the courage to get to a dentist, then we can help you get the treatment you need in a manner that is extremely gentle.

Many people developed their fear of the dentist through having a bad experience as a child, or it can be something that is passed down from parent to child. If your parents suffered with bad teeth, and experienced anxiety over visiting the dentist then they could easily, and completely inadvertently, have passed this on to you. Sometimes this fear can stem from the feeling of not being in control, as it is not uncommon for people to feel quite vulnerable when sitting in the dental chair. We can help you with these things, and will work with you to overcome these fears. There are far more techniques than you might think, that can easily put you back in control.

For instance, the first visit to our dental surgery is simply to give us a chance to get to know you, and for you to ask all the questions you need. We will want to look inside your mouth, but we won’t carry out any treatment. If you do need dental work then we will sit down with you to explain exactly what needs to be done, and why. We can list out all the options for you, so you can make the choice over what to have done. Then we will work out a suitable treatment plan with you, and will proceed at a pace you feel comfortable with. During treatment, you’ll remain in control at all times, and we will stop the treatment at frequent intervals just to make sure you are okay.

Don’t think this will work for you? No problem. Dr Walsh and Dr Beirne are both fully qualified and trained to administer sedation intravenously, something that is called sleep dentistry. You will then be so relaxed that you will be able to cope comfortably with your appointment, and this may be a great idea if you have quite a lot of treatment to complete.

We can help you deal with your dental phobia in Dublin, and all you have to do is pick up the phone and talk to us. We will not judge you, even if it has been many years since you managed to set foot in a dental surgery, as we have successfully helped many people who felt just like you.
