Patient: Sarah aged 33, presented with very disfiguring teeth in Jan 2011.

Treatment: We used the 6 month smiles technique to correct her mis-aligned teeth, adjusting her orthodontic wires every month.
We would recommend she whitens her teeth now that they are corrected permanantly.

Duration of treatment: 6 months

Dentist: Dr. Helen Walsh.

Cost €2600

When I recently received an email from Miss Universe Ireland 2010 Rozanna Purcell, asking me if I could improve her smile, I was delighted to be able to help her.

Now the difference between a perfect smile and a not-so-great one is about 1/10 of a millimeter, so there’s no room for error, particularly if a patient’s career depends on looking beautiful. Cosmetic dentistry can be at turns rewarding and challenging, and the concentration required can be pretty draining; still I’m not complaining, there are tougher jobs.

What we did:
Roz didn’t really like the appearance of her upper front teeth, she felt that they looked too short and grey at the bottom. We agreed that by removing the failed composites and replacing them with a whiter, less translucent cosmetic bonding, we could dramatically improve her smile. Interestingly, the teeth appear longer even though they aren’t by much; it’s just that the better shape and colour makes them appear longer.

What I like about composite bonding is that it is a conservative treatment; we removed none of Roz’s enamel from her natural teeth, and the treatment was all carried out in a single appointment.

So now that the cosmetic bonding is completed on the top teeth, Dr. Helen Walsh is taking over Roz’s care to complete the orthodontic straightening of her lower teeth (update and pics to come in a few months!).

I want to thank Roz for being a great patient, my somewhat ignorant expectation of tantrums and tiaras proved to be miles off the mark!

Treatment : This patient had a chipped and broken front tooth which affected her smile. We whitened all her teeth and added cosmetic bonding resin to the tip of her broken front tooth. What I love about this case is that it is conservative; the health of the mouth and teeth are prioiritised because the teeth are not damaged, cut or prepared in any way during treatment.
It also looks pretty good!

Treatment time: 1 hour (+ whitening)

Cost of treatment: €520

Treatment : This patient had worn teeth which were too short. She also did not like the spaces between the teeth. We discussed many treatment options and considered porcelain veneers, but in the end opted for cosmetic bonding because she she is young, and we felt it better to wait a few years before using porcelain. It is possbile toget a very natural looking smile with cosmetic bonding; the treatment can be carried out in a few hours, and the results should last 5-7 years.

The above patient presented to my surgery complaining of dark, stained teeth, and unsightly composite restorations on his anterior teeth.  The patient had fallen off of his bike as a child, and had his teeth repaired several times since.  Porcelain crowns were the ideal solution to restore his heavily filled anterior teeth, as these will help stabilise, and strengthen his front teeth, as well as providing an excellent aesthetic result.

The teeth were cleaned; and once a good level of oral hygiene was achieved by the patient, we were able to crown the four centre front teeth.  No bleaching took place, as the patient was happy enough with the colour of his front teeth.  The transformation was increadable.

Duration of treatment: Gum treatment carried out in August 2010; Crowns done over two visits 6 months later.

Cost : 4 Super aesthetic Porcelain Crowns  €2,200

This patient, aged 41 years was always bothered by her teeth;  She thought many times of going down the orthodontic route; but was not willing to be wearing braces for two years.  You could imagine how pleased she was when she heard about the 6 month smile treatment.

6 Month Smile orthodontic braces were placed on the patients upper teeth teeth only, as she was happy enough with the look of her bottom teeth (pictured above on day of placement).  The clear brackets, and white wire meant that they were much more discrete than normal braces.  In 6 months; the patient had the smile she always wanted.

Cost: €1900 payable over the duration of her treatment.

Patient: Amy aged 22 years was always self-conscious and unhappy with her upper front teeth, never wanting to be photographed smiling, even though she was a very attractive young woman.

Treatment: Inman Aligner worn on her top teeth for approximtely 16 weeks–it took longer than normal as we had to create space for her teeth to move into, by broadening the width of her palate slowly, then fitting the teeth into the space created.

Cost: €1700 payable over the duration of her treatment.

Patient: Noel, aged late 20’s /early 30’s has been a patient of Dr Helen Walsh for the last 10 years, and had at many times considered some cosmetic work on his front teeth, which had been fractured as a child, and repaired regularly in the intervening years. He was mostly concerned about the actual treatment involved, though cost, as with everyone was an issue also.

Treatment:He finally decided to go ahead and have cosmetic work started on his teeth in November 2010. We started by whitening all his teeth, including the damaged front teeth, and then when we were happy with the colour he achieved, we prepared 3 of his front teeth for porcelain crowns, and 1 for a porcelain veneer. These were fitted in February 2011.
Noel is so happy with the treatment and care provided, and wishes he did this a long time ago–see his video testimonial on our site re this.

Duration of treatment: Nov 2010 to Feb 2011

Cost : €349 whitening, followed by 3 super aesthetic Porcelain Crowns and 1 Porcelain Veneer €2,893
