Smiles of the Week

Orthodontic treatment first:

Then Cosmetic Bonding:

Patient: Margaret, stunning looking at 50+years, had always felt lacking in confidence about her crooked top front teeth and her prominent profile-making her afraid to smile without first covering her mouth. For a great looking woman, with good teeth–just not straight ones-this was a terrible affliction.

Treatment: Inman Aligner worn over upper teeth for less than 10 weeks, followeed by cosmetic bonding of her left front tooth to mask the chipped portion.

Cost €1700 Inman Aligner, and bonding €130.

Treatment done by Dr. Helen Walsh.

Treatment : This patient was not happy with the look of her front teeth and smile.  She came in interested in veneering her front teeth to give herself an instant smile makeover.  The patient had considered orthodontic treatment, but did not want to go through 2 years of treatment.

We went through her options; and came to the conclusion that veneer work would be too drastic, as her teeth were in great condition.  Inman was the perfect solution, as it would straighten the teeth in a matter of weeks, and maintain the integrity of the teeth, and require no removal of healthy tooth substance.  Inmans innovative design means that this is much faster than traditional orthodontics.  The cost of inman aligner is also less than veneers, and because we maintain your own teeth, the results will last a lifetime.

Advantages of Inman Appliances:
* Quick

* No tooth preparation (drilling)

* Good cosmetic result

* Lower cost

* Straight teeth will last a lifetime!

* Able to remove the appliance at social occasions (but we still require you to wear it 20 hours per day to ensure the quickest result)

Treatment : This patient did not like the spaces between her teeth. We discussed all the treatment options and decided to opt for tooth whitening and cosmetic bonding. Matching the shade of the cosmetic exactly to that of the surrounding teeth can be challenging; our criteria for success is that the results should be invisible from normal speaking distance. You can see from the photographs that even under close scrutiny, it is almost impossible to see the join.

So why choose  bonding over veneers? There is no right and wrong answer – we consider each case individually and both treatments can give outstanding results.

Advantages of Cosmetic bonding:
* Quick
* Little or no preparation of the teeth (cutting/drilling)
* Good cosmetic result
* Lower cost

Advantages of porcelain veneers:
* Excellent cosmetic results possible
* Longer life span (10yrs + average)

Treatment : This patient was not happy with a poorly placed composite build up of his front tooth; he felt that it had never looked quite right. We discussed a number of options including using a porcelain veneer to rebuild the tooth, but opted for cosmetic bonding because it has the following advantages:
* Quick – single appointment
* Low cost
* Conservative treatment – little or no drilling of natural tooth
* Excellent cosmetic result possible

Treatment time: single appointment – 90 minutes!

Cost of treatment: €275

Treatment : This girl did not like the uneven appearnace of the small teeth either side of the two front teeth (lateral incisors). When she came to Portobello Dental Clinic for her first appointment, we discussed all the treatment options including braces, porcelain veneers, cosmetic recontouring and cosmetic bonding. We decided to opt for tooth whitening, cosmetic recontouring and cosmetic bonding because:
* There is no drilling or preparation of the teeth
* Treatment can be completed withing a matter of weeks
* Reduction in cost of treatment

Treatment : This patient had short and discoloured lateral incisors (the teeth either side of the two front teeth). We discussed all the treatment options and decided that porcelain veneers would provide the best cosmetic result. The teeth were all whitened and then two veneers were placed on the two lateral incisors. Matching the shade of the veneers exactly to that of the surrounding teeth can be one of the biggest challenges in dentistry, but if done correctly, the results can be fantastic.

Treatment : This patient had a short front tooth which never grew properly. She was self conscious about her smile, but was nervous about getting it fixed. Once we explained that it could be rebuilt using composite bonding with NO injections and NO drilling, she couldn’t wait to get started!
By using a composite bonding technique, we added to the existing tooth without taking anything away, so it is a very gentle approach to treatment.
The results speak for themselves!
