Dental Council reg no 3316
All our dentists adhere to the strict guidelines governing the profession under strict guidance from the General Dental Council (GDC) “Standards for Dental Professionals”.
Dr Daisy McCarthy graduated from University College Cork in 2010 and went to work in Scotland, initially in general dental practice in Edinburgh and then in the Oral Surgery department of Glasgow Dental Hospital. She also gained experience in the community dental service, doing domiciliary visits, working with anxious patients and those with special needs.
Daisy has a keen interest in dental education and has worked as a tutor in restorative dentistry and dental sedation in Glasgow and Newcastle dental hospitals. She holds a diploma in clinical education with the University of Edinburgh, and will complete a Masters degree in this discipline in 2017. As part of her role as a clinical teacher, she led a team of nine dental students on a trip to Fiji in 2015 to carry out a dental outreach programme and has also worked as a dental volunteer in Ghana and Tanzania. This interest in clinical education will be further pursued in her role as sessional supervisor of undergraduate dental students in Dublin Dental Hospital. She has also completed a diploma in conscious sedation at Newcastle University and has a particular interest in sedation treatment for paediatric patients.
In the summer of 2016, Daisy joined Portobello Dental Clinic; she has enjoyed the opportunity to meet the practice patients and to put them at ease as she works with them to improve their oral health and to give them confidence in their smiles. She enjoys working with children and is dedicated to developing her clinical skills in order to be able to provide the most up to date and progressive dental care to younger patients in a comfortable and friendly environment. Following on from her work in Newcastle Dental Hospital, she is now offering dental treatment under inhalation sedation to paediatric patients in Portobello Dental Clinic. The positive dental experience provided by this service for apprehensive children represents a significant stepping-stone in the establishment of lifelong oral health.
On a personal note, Daisy is delighted to be back in Ireland among friends and family after six years in the UK. This is her first experience of life in the capital; she loves the opportunity to explore the city and is always looking for insider tips about hidden Dublin, especially places to eat! She is also an enthusiastic photographer, and loves all manner of water sports, from sailing in West Cork, learning to surf in Sligo or swimming in the FortyFoot here in Dublin.
